For the first time in its 190-year history, the world’s second best-selling Scotch whisky, Ballantine's, has released a series of single malts. The unprecedented move is designed to give whisky-loving folks like you and me the opportunity to sample and experience the three main malt whiskies that comprise the famous Ballantine’s blend.
In this case, we have the Glenburgie single malt, which the brand says is the whisky that forms the heart of a Ballantine’s blend. It was bottled at 15 years of age after maturation in American Oak casks.
Nose: A luxurious nose kicks off with golden syrup, white grapes, and cooking apples before malt and marzipan reveal along with sweet cereals. Stewed pear and a hint of brown sugar arrive after some time.
Taste: Caramel, white chocolate, and vanilla emerge through fizzing ginger and white pepper. Mandarin, lychee, and deep dark fruits develop to form an impressively fruity backdrop.
Finish: Relatively short, with flickers of spice.
